Gonçalo Pinto Ferreira, partner and head of the Labour and Social Security Practice at TELLES, recently wrote an article for Advocatus entitled "Amended Labour Code: is this it?", in which he analyses the implementation of the legislative package that introduced and amended more than 150 provisions of the Portuguese Labour Code and its impact on companies' HR management.
The TELLES lawyer, who specialises in labour law, points out that "this review comes at a time when Portugal is facing particularly demanding challenges, so it is important to face reality and accept that labour law can be a determining factor when it comes to investment".
In conclusion, he points to "the new difficulties that have arisen for companies since May 1st, but which are a good illustration of the focus and direction of these changes. Very demanding rules for companies, without a focus on flexibility and merit, and many of them even of dubious constitutionality. The disappointment of many is therefore easier to understand. After all, this is what the amended Labour Code looks like...".
