Francisco Espregueira Mendes, head of the corporate, commercial and M&A practice at TELLES, comments on the impact of the rise in interest rates on companies and explains to Jornal de Negócios that the rise in interest rates is beginning to affect, “namely, small businesses and medium-sized", a reality that, he admits, could become more pronounced "in this first half of 2023".
According to the TELLES partner, this situation is leading to "less liquidity in companies, with obvious consequences in the postponement of investment projects". He also underlines that the sectors that are being most affected "are essentially the highly energy-consuming industries and the food sector, and some instability is also beginning to be felt in part of the real estate sector".
