Gonçalo Pinto Ferreira, Partner and coordinator of the Labour and Social Security practice at TELLES, in the article "From codes of conduct to informality, how do companies manage personal relationships between employees?" published by ECO, states that although codes of conduct may be required by law in the context of preventing corruption, many companies choose to include rules on personal relationships between employees, aimed in particular to ensuring transparency and impartiality.
The TELLES lawyer adds that these are sensitive issues, and a balance must be struck with the personal freedom of the employee: "There has to be common sense and balance”.
