Leyre Prieto, partner and coordinator of the EU and competition practice at TELLES, and Joana Whyte, associate in the same practice, comment on the paradigm shift of social networks in the article "EU is ready to combat disinformation, but risks persist" published in Jornal de Negócios.
The TELLES lawyers point out that the European Commission has been discussing ways to "avoid the dangers caused by digitalisation, namely defending democracy in the face of disinformation [...] without calling into question fundamental EU principles such as freedom of expression".
They also clarify that “under the DSA, the EC can impose fines of up to 6% of the infringing company's worldwide turnover and order the adoption of measures to remedy the infringement within a time limit set by the EC”.
