"Mercado de Capitais - Uma Alternativa de Estímulo do Setor Empresarial Português" was the topic discussed at the Business Breakfast organised by TELLES in partnership with Elite-Euronext Group, which brought together financial experts on 7 November.

Rina Guerra, Business Development & Sales Relationship Director Portugal at Elite-Euronext Group, presented a programme to support the growth of Portuguese companies. With this programme, ELITE, part of the Euronext Group, aims to stimulate the growth of companies by providing them with the necessary tools in terms of skills, enriching their relationship capital and access to alternative forms of financing. The ELITE ecosystem already includes 24 companies in Portugal and this initiative aims to replicate its success in Italy, with around 1600 companies in this community.

The panel discussion on "Capital Markets - Financing Alternatives" featured Sanguini Shirish, Director of Investment Banking and Specialised Credit at Banco Montepio, and TELLES lawyers Márcio Carreira Nobre, Partner and Head of Finance and Capital Markets, and Miguel Bento Ribeiro, a lawyer specialising in tax incentives. Finally, we heard from Tiago Baptista, CEO of XPLOR, which has been participating in ELITE's programme to support the growth of Portuguese companies for over a year.

The opening session was given by Francisco Espregueira Mendes, Managing Partner of TELLES and Head of Corporate, Transactional and Private Equity.

He underlined the crucial role of the capital market in providing financial intermediation to businesses, especially SMEs, giving them access to new sources of finance without having to rely exclusively on bank financing. This type of financing is often more flexible and can enable companies to capitalise in order to remain competitive and achieve objectives such as innovation and expansion.
