Vera Matos Pereira, associate in the Global Mobility and Visas practice at TELLES, discusses in a commentary for Jornal Público Brazil the government's recent proposal to reduce the time it takes to obtain a work visa to one month.
Vera believes that the target is achievable, but stresses that the main obstacle is not obtaining the visa, but the subsequent steps in the process of legalising a worker in Portugal: "People arrive in the country with a visa, are able to get a job, but there are no openings for them to register with AIMA and obtain a residence permit.
The Global Mobility and Visas practice at TELLES is confident that AIMA (the Portuguese Agency for Integration, Migration and Asylum) will be able to speed up the process of obtaining residence permits in the country.
